The Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide for Kids Ages 0-6: Curated by Your Favorite Play Café
The Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide for Kids Ages 0-6: Curated by Your Favorite Play Café
The holidays are here, and as a play café owner, I see firsthand what lights up children’s eyes and what truly stands the test of time when it comes to playtime joy. If you’re on the hunt for thoughtful, enriching, and sustainable gifts for kids ages 0-6, look no further! I’ve put together a list of ideas inspired by the playthings and experiences that kids (and their parents!) love most.
For Babies (0-12 Months)
At this stage, sensory experiences are everything. Opt for toys that stimulate sight, sound, and touch.
1. Indestructible Books & Soft Sensory Books
These are perfect for tummy time and early exploration. Look for books with crinkly pages, textured fabrics, and bright, high-contrast colors.
We also love The Original Indestructibles Books, teething proof and sure to last through all of the stages of babyhood and toddlerhood. Plus they are lightweight and fold up to fit in small spaces, such as your diaper bag, making them perfect for on-the-go fun!

2. Wooden Rattles and Silicone Grasping Toys
Eco-friendly wooden rattles are easy for tiny hands to hold and provide delightful sounds without overstimulation. We are also obsessed with The Classical Child company and their wide assortment of beautiful silicone toys, perfect for teething littles that are exploring with their mouths and hands. They are super durable and so easy to sanitize.
3. Baby Play Gym
A minimalistic play gym with hanging toys encourages reaching, grasping, and kicking. Fan favorite brand, DockATot, has a beautiful and simple baby floor mat, the MiniMat. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, it leaves behind all of the overstimulating noises and brightly colored bells and whistles that other floor gyms flaunt and instead excites the senses through texture and simple pops of color and patterns that are sure to ignite your baby’s desire to explore.
For Toddlers & Preschoolers (1-6 Years)
Toddlers love exploring, mimicking, and mastering new skills. Look for gifts that encourage active play and curiosity. Preschoolers are in the golden age of imaginative play and learning to mimick real life with dramatic play.
1. Stacking Toys
Timeless and versatile, stacking toys help develop fine motor skills, problem-solving, and creativity. It’s no secret that we LOVE the Stapelstein stepping stones at Sunshine Play Cafe. We are obsessed with how durable, light weight and visually pleasing they are. They are the perfect open ended play addition. Plus you will never care if they are left out in the open, as they are easy to stack and store and make the sweetest little aesthetic addition to any room. Each Stapelstein Original can support up to 396 lbs, meaning they are the perfect family fun essential. They’re not only great for stacking, but can be used as a play hat, bowl, or anything else your little one can think up! New this year- mini stepping stones, giant stepping stones and nesting Stapelsteins!
2. Pretend Play Items
Kids this age adore mimicking the adults in their lives. A play café favorite is a wooden play kitchen or a small set of pretend food. Bonus: it sets them up for imaginative play with siblings or friends.
One of our favorite imaginative play tools at Sunshine Play Cafe are Sarah’s Silks. They are gorgeous, open ended play silks. I have seen littles use the silks in so many imaginative ways, it truly sparks magic just witnessing the way they use them. Capes, mermaid tales, aprons, head wraps, veils, skirts, dresses, vests, wings, blankets, satchels, forts- the possibilities are endless!
3. Push or Pull Toys
For little ones perfecting their walking skills, a beautifully crafted wooden pull toy or a push cart provides endless fun and encourages mobility.
At Sunshine Play cafe we love a good ole’ classic Cozy Coupe. Drive around using your feet, push and pull the car around, beep the horn, serve ice cream from the “trunk”, drive to the “grocery store”, chase dinosaurs on a wild adventure, Cozy Coupes are an active and engaging play item.
4. Art Supplies
Think washable paints, chunky crayons, or a tabletop easel. Add some blank sketchbooks for hours of artistic exploration.
For a mess free art supply on the go, think car rides, we love a classic Magna Doodle. This mini version is perfect for sliding into the back pocket of your driver’s seat, so that it is always ready when your little artist feels the creative bug creeping up!
5. Building Sets
Wooden blocks, magnetic tiles, or beginner LEGO sets are fantastic for problem-solving and open-ended play. We also love Plus Plus blocks, unique hashtag shaped building tools that can be used to build up and out. Of course Magnatiles are also a big hit in our house!
If you are looking for a more affordable alternative to Magnatiles, check out this Amazon find, Picasso Tiles, that’s very similar, for a bit less.
A favorite at Sunshine Play Cafe are the foam wood planks. They allow creative builders the ability to safely construct with realistic looking foam wood planks.
Non-Toy Gifts: Experiences & Memories
Sometimes the best gifts aren’t things at all. Consider these ideas for meaningful, clutter-free presents:
1. Play Café Membership
Give the gift of unlimited fun! A membership to Sunshine Play Cafe offers access to our creative play spaces, enriching activities, and parent-friendly perks like great coffee and a full service cafe that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Memberships pay for themselves in 4 or less visits, depending on how many children you have. Plus with each membership, members receive $20 worth of freebies every month.
Save big and discover joy and peace while your children play and socialize in a safe, clean and warm environment.
2. Classes or Workshops
Sign them up for art, music, family nights or movement classes. Many family friendly places, including ours, host parent-child sessions that are as fun as they are educational.
Every 3rd Monday is Pajama Party day at Sunshine Play Cafe, receive $1 off your play pass admission if your kiddo wears their jammies!
Every 4th Thursday of the month is Lego Night at the cafe. Fun for the whole family, as the cafe area is stocked with legos and all sorts of brick building activities for kids and adults of all ages to enjoy. The best part is children 7 years of age and older are FREE and we serve dinner items, making this the perfect family date night spot!

3. Family Adventures
Gift passes to the zoo, children’s museum, or a local farm. Pair it with a homemade "adventure voucher" for a family outing they’ll never forget.
A Play Café Twist on Gifting
At our play café, we believe in gifts that are thoughtful and focused on creating memories. That’s why we offer:
Discounted play pass packs, in quantities of 6 or 12. Purchase directly from our website: www.sunshineplaycafeky.com/gift
The ability to gift monthly Memberships. Simply purchase a monthly membership, adjusting the quantity to reflect the amount of months you wish to gift to your recipient, and we will take care of the rest! What better way to show a young parent in your life that you truly care, than to gift them the ability to visit a space like Sunshine Play Cafe as often as they wish. When you give a Sunshine Play Cafe gift, you are gifting joy, peace, security and lasting memories!
This holiday season, skip the plastic overload and choose gifts that nurture creativity, learning, and connection. Whether it’s a beautifully crafted toy or a play café membership, the best presents are those that spark joy and encourage kids to explore their world.
Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas from our family to yours! 🎄✨
